fate

from evy's notebook

if we were each a tiny node amongst millions,
wires would dance and twist and cross
each other. sometimes glimmering but
often invisible and unnoticed,
grazing a node and continuing on in its dance.

what i mean is i'm connected to you every day
when we happen to stand up at the same time,
when we pour the same cup of tea,
when we both think of the movie we saw that time a while ago.

what i mean is i'm connected to you every day
and i'm connected to her,
and to that guy you dated,
and to my kindergarden teacher's husband.

and how could i not be?
it's fun to think that this is special,
that we drank the same soda today and saw the same concert last night,

but isn't it more fun to think that the connections we see
are only a mere fraction of this giant web?

when i look at you,
a wire between us shines bright
and i catch a glimpse of dozens of other wires nearby
